Talk and Surf the Web

Vivid

It would be great if I could look something up on the internet while I am talking on the phone. I hate when I have to get off the phone in order to look up a number or use an app that has the capability to do so but needs internet service in order to work.

Unfortunaly CDMA does not have the ability to do this. I believe that LTE is able to do this. Hopefully we will have this soon.

well the iPhone 4S CSpire is getting has a dual band antenna that switches between GSM and CDMA signal. Which means us CSpire CDMA users will be able to use GSM network signal. So it may be possible

Well C Spire is planning on moving to 4G LTE and if Verizon can do it, it is possible.

The technology is out there to talk and surf. It is something that CSpire definitely needs to be able to compete with the larger companies out there.

i too always thought about talking and surfing the web..but with cspire using CDMA it will be impossible but i hope they move to 4G lite very soon like before my birthday..

Unfortunately, the only way you can talk and surf at the same time on CDMA is if you were connected to wifi. LTE does open up the ability to talk and surf at the same time. That is if it is true LTE and not 3.5 HPSA+. Only time shall tell.

Now i know the difference between GSM and CDMA when it comes to talk and surfing the web..My question is will cspire ever get GSM phone. Another question will be will cspire make it possible for CDMA to talk and surf one 4g lite comes out. It is possible but i was just asking to get an answer.

This entire thread is making my head hurt.

So looks like the techie should chime in.

    First the basics.

At this present moment their are only 2 network types used for voice transfer.

    1. CDMA

    2. GSM

GSM networks like At&t, T-Mobile utilize HSPA for their data. HSPA+ is an improvement on HSPA. Let's make this very clear there ins't a network in this country that is on CDMA that would start investing in HSPA+ when they don't need too.

CDMA networks like Sprint, Verizon, and C Spire utilize EVDO which isn't a seperate network like HSPA is to GSM. EVDO and EVDO REV A is part of the CDMA network which makes it cheaper from what I understand to launch. Since EVDO and CDMA operate on the same band then the phone is unable to talk and surf at the same time.

Lets reacap here. ATT and Tmobile phones have both GSM and HSPA (or HSPA+) so they can talk which goes through the GSM and they can surf which goes through the HSPA.

Sprint, Verizon and C Spire have only CDMA with EVDO technology so they can talk or surf which only comes from one area.

Now being LTE is a totally seperate system then theoretically you should be able to talk via CDMA and surf via LTE. Now some of the systems that companies are using and I believe Verizon is beta testing is the ability to talk over LTE using VoIP technology to attempt to save battery life. Now that is still years away from being implemented.

So lets do the final recap:

You talk on either GSM or CDMA

You surf on HSPA, HSPA+, or LTE

So until C Spire picks up a second network ie LTE then you will not be able to talk and surf at the same time.

Now all these other random posts...you confuse me and you make my head hurt.

    That's my two cents

Forget the head hurt, my eyes are watering from the comment, I finally got the color back in my cheeks. I love reading posts. They are fun.

You have to understand this is my life. I spend pretty much every waking moment studying tech related issues and news.

The day that I knew I was different and super nerd I decided that I would become an IT Specialist. I turned to the first spot I knew The "Geek" Squad, and found out the down side to the IT industry. Either you are the sole IT manager for a huge company (which those jobs are hard to come by) or you work with places like Best Buy and get paid durt. Most companies cross over their IT specialists from engineering positions.

So now I just lurk forums and look for posts to where I can reply in hopes that one day I find the position that fits my randomness of skills.

I beleive C Spire is planning to utilize VoLTE when the technology fully develops.
