Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Facebook Sync Problem

SCOTT ARCHER Enlightened

Is there a way to get facebook to sync with the Xperia Play phone?

I just bought it yesterday and It won't allow me to add facebook to my list of accounts.

Is there a workaround for this?

Quick Question Scott, How is this phone? Could you take the time to let me know what all it can and can't do? I'm trying to win one for my husband on the App Arcade when it's the daily prize. Just wanted to know how the phone is. We have the Galaxy S. Just let me know whenever you get a chance. Thanks, Gret

So far I like it. It's lacking some of the Android customizations the Galaxy S has, but It also lacks some of their quirks too.

I went from a Galaxy S to the Xperia Play. Facebook Sync doesn't work (not a very big deal to me)

The controller is nice, but I'm going to have to get used to it as far as games go.

The phones seems slightly faster than the galaxy s and the touchscreen is more responsive.

      The speakers are better.

The Xperia Play is a lot heavier and thicker than the galaxy s, but i'm ok with that too.

      The battery life seems similar.

According to Sony Ericsson the Xperia play will be upgraded to android 4 (ICE Cream Sandwich).

I haven't heard anything from c spire on that, but hopefully it will happen.

Other than that they seem very similar.

Let me know if you have any other questions I'll answer them as best I can.

      Thanks,

      Scott

I just want to chime in on the customization front.  You can download different launchers for your phone (GoLauncher EX and ADW.launcher EX, i believe Go is free, ADW has a small price).  These allow you to customize everything about your phone (number of screens, resize widgets and icons, number of columns and rows on your screen, even how many icons in the launch bar).  Along with Desktop Virtualiser you can make your phone look just like a Windows 7 Mobile phone if you want.  So the sky really is the limit with just a few app downloads.

Not to mention you can get other SMS apps, keyboards (SlideIt and Swiftkey X are two popular ones, I'm trying out Swiftkey right now and I think it's a million times better than the stock keyboard.  When my 30 day trial is up if I still like it as much as I do now I will buy it.)

So even if one phone has more options than another straight out of the box, there is always a way to get more options if you just look for them

One huge plus about the Xperia is the fact that aside from the few Sony apps on the phone, it pretty much has a stock version of Gingerbread (2.3.3) on it.  What this means is that you don't have to worry about the manufacturer putting their own spin on the OS (like Samsung, HTC, or Motorola does) and you oftentimes get a more responsive phone because of this.  Score for Sony!  We got lucky though because in other countries they did put their own spin on Android.  I just hope when we get ICS (if...please CSpire!) it comes as a close to stock version of ICS, with the few Sony apps that the phone comes with.

Wow, thanks, it's much appreciated. I don't think my husband is too big on the customization part, I figured it would be bigger and heavier, which I don't think he would mind. It sounds like a pretty good phone, after you have played some games, please give some feedback of them, if you don't mind. I have stated on here several times that I am not computer smart and I don't understand some of the software stuff, so my question is, What is Ice Cream Sandwhich and Gingerbread(that jasons. stated), I just use the phone for the internet, music and watching videos, I know nothing about all this software stuff but I'm not afraid to ask, cause if you don't ask, then you'll never know. Again, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Gret

Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread are code names to the version of android software installed on the phone.

Ice Cream Sandwich = Android 4.0

          Gingerbread = Android 2.3

With the newer version usually comes more features and increased performance / stability.

Most modern android phones are currently running 2.3 (Gingerbread) and will not be upgraded to 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Sony Ericsson has committed to upgrading all Xperia Play phones to android 4.0.

Here is a list of new features in Android 4.0 http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0-highlights.html

This may be more information than you wanted, but now you know

Wow, that was a neat article, Thanks alot, I now have a better view of what the software is about. I sure hope Samsung comes out with an update like that for the Galaxy S, it's a pretty good phone, the 4.0 software would be awsome. Thanks Again,    Gret    PS, It was excatly the information I wanted to know.
