My question is actually about the Playbook. What are the plans for making the Android Market available on the Playbook? I know it has been mentioned and then put off until the first of 2012. Is there any update to this? The Playbook is a great device, it would be even better with more apps. Thanks.
@lamont
The new PlayBook software will be available in February which will enable native email, calendar and address book. This update will also add the ability to run any Android applications which developers have submitted to BlackBerry App World.
RIM has made it easy for developers to do this with a simple developer toolkit that takes less than a minute to submit their Android application to our store for approval. Over 70% of Android applications are able to be converted to PlayBook and we're expecting a huge number of applications available at launch ![]()
That is great news!! I can't wait!!
I can't wait either..........![]()
When will Cspire have a Blackberry 4G available?
@F Risley
We are working with CSpire to plan our 4G strategy, but unfortunately at this time we have no updates regarding timing of these products.
What is the standby/talk time on the Bold 9930? I am very interested in this new phone but am concerned about battery life.
@msnyder52
The talk time for Bold 9930 is 6.6 hours and the standby time is 12.8 days. This phone is just like all other BlackBerrys with outstanding batterly life compared to our competitors.
Are keyboard shortcuts still available on the Torch since they is no keyboard? IE: L for calendar, B for browser?
@jerome brown
Unfortunately they are not available on the Torch 9850, but continue to be available on the Curve 9350 and Bold 9930 by pressing menu-Options on the homescreen and selecting 'Application Shortcuts' in the Launch by Typing option.
I have a Galaxy S, what are some of the similarities and differences between the 2 phones? Can you download apps from the market, can you customize the phone and can you take pictures and videos with the phone. Thank You.
@gret
Both the Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 would be a great option for you coming from a Galaxy S. Both of these phones include a 1.2MHz processor and a 5MP camera with a high-intensity flash for any light conditions. These devices offer a screen with a similar size to the Galaxy S allowing you to watch movies from the memory card or from the web with fast 3G web browsing.
The Bold 9930 comes with 8GB of internal memory and a microSD slot expandable to 40GB and the Torch 9850 comes with 4GB of internal memory and a microSD slot expandable to 36GB so you can load all of your music, pictures and videos easily with desktop manager. Desktop manager will synchronize with both iTunes and Windows Media Player as well.
These phones have access to all of BlackBerry App World with over 40,000 applications, including most of the popular Android applications.
Make sure to check out Angry Farm for a similar game to Angry Birds ![]()
Will Do. Thank You.
What all can the Blackberry DO? What can it NOT DO?
@matt
The BlackBerry is the only true real-time communication device that utilizes the largest private network in the World to ensure you have all of your emails, text messages, BlackBerry Messenger messages and global information right as it happens. BlackBerry has a majority of the World's most popular mobile applications which also use the BlackBerry network to help reduce data usage, while maximizing battery life.
If I was to say one thing that BlackBerry handsets cannot do, it's Flash player in the browser. Fortunately the BlackBerry PlayBook has a full Flash 10.1 player allowing mobile viewing of any video or flash website that you're trying to access. It's the perfect companion to your BlackBerry handheld!
Is there a way to do a soft reset on the Torch?
@jerome brown
To reset a BlackBerry you can either pull the battery, or on a QWERTY device you can hold down the following keys in order: ALT+right SHIFT+DELETE
I used a Blackberry many moons ago, but switched to an Android device. One thing I do miss is the email. Does the new Blackberry have faster internet browsing like other types of smartphones?
@Steph
I used to have the old World Edition phone and I loved that.
@RIM Rep What sets this new Blackberry apart from the other ones we're used to using?
@nrdgrl
The new phones have more than double the processing power, and triple the memory which completely changes the user experience from a speed perspective.
Also, with BlackBerry7 we have added a ton of key features that will help you save hours each day keeping up with your social media and messages from friends. Here are a few of my favorite features:
- Voice activated search (searches your entire phone including applications and documents on your SD card)
- Social Feeds (integrates Twitter, Facebook and BlackBerry messenger updates so you can go to one place for all of you updates and social media posts)
- BB7 Browser (industry leading speed and ability to browse all websites that don't use Flash)
- App World 3.0 (ability to subscribe monthly to applications such as BlackBerry Music)
- BlackBerry Messenger 6 (connects your chats to applications so you can have a conversation within applications such as Texas Hold'em Poker)
@stephhb
The new BlackBerry 7 devices (Curve 9350, Bold 9930 and Torch 9850) all have a completely redesigned browser from the same company that helped to develop the best browsers in the world including Safari. Combined with the amazing power of the new processor and memory in these phones you will see class-leading browser experience with the fastest page-loading possible!
We would love to see you back on a BlackBerry this holiday season!
Are there any plans for a new type of tablet? I always thought the Playbook was kind of small for my tastes.
@stephb
RIM has not announced any future plans for different sizes of the PlayBook. I would definitely suggest trying one out for a week to see if this size is right for you. I find the 7" PlayBook much easier to use on a daily basis, especially while mobile. This size is very similar to a paperback book and is great to read books while mobile. But when you turn it to landscape mode, it's perfect for browsing with a full width page.
Also, it's great for playing 3D video games since it is the perfect size to hold in your hands while navigating.
I'D BE INTERESTED ALSO
@ George Collins RIM has not announced any future plans for different sizes of the PlayBook.
I'd be interested in switching to a Blackberry for my work phone that I also have through C Spire. Can you tell me more about the BES that these phones offer?
@dw
BES is a backroom server that connects to your company's email server and wirelessly synchronizes all of your Outlook or Lotus Notes information such as email, calendar, address book and tasks.
The BES also allows your BlackBerry to access your company's intranet such as internal websites, file servers, etc.
BES has top level security which is fully approved by all the governments of the World including the US Government. All messages and data are encrypted from the handset all the way to the server behind your company's firewall so there is zero chance of interception.
How sensitive in the touchscreen on this phone?
@nrdgrl
The touchscreen sensitivity can be adjusted to your preferred sensitivity on the new BlackBerry in the options menu ![]()
Will you ever offer a 10 inch playbook?
@catherin jourdan
Currently RIM has not announced any plans for a 10" PlayBook.
I think you'll find after a few days with the 7" version that the size is perfect for mobile use. The size and weight is perfect for taking it with you where ever you go and is great for both reading books and browsing by utilizing portrait and landscape mode.
What are the top three features for this Blackberry?
@karina brown
In my opinion, these are the top 3 features of BlackBerry:
1. real-time communication - email, BBM, text messages, etc.
2. Action - applications, communication and fast browsing allow BlackBerry users to do what they require to get work done!
3. Collaboration - Facebook, Twitter, BBM, LinkedIn allow BlackBerry users to connect with people all over the World
For the Bold 9930, How Much Memory is dedicated to apps?
Can you download apps to your memory card?
Will this phone be able to use the bridge app for the playbook?
Also, for the Bold 9650, when is cspire going to release the 6.0 OS update? We have waaited a while for the update.
Thanks,
Be Encoraged:-)
@isaac johnson
The Bold 9930 has 768MB of application memory. Apps cannot be loaded onto memory cards.
This phone has the Bridge application preloaded, and can be updated through App World as well when needed.
I will get back to you regarding the 9650 ASAP ![]()
6.0 OS for 9650 available on BlackBerry website for C Spire
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
I downloaded and installed. Works great and I like it, except I have to reset the phone every few days as it acts like the MUTE button is pressed and callers cannot hear me
@nightengale cabinets
@isaac johnson
Looks like it's already available on the CSpire website! Have fun with the new browser, it's over twice as fast as your previous software ![]()
will the 9930 be the only new blackberry offered to C spire?
@nick brewer
Currently the Bold 9930 is the only announced BlackBerry7 device with CSpire.
When can we expect the 2.0 Playbook OS update which will bring native email to the playbook?
Thanks,
Be Encouraged:-)
@isaac johnson
The PlayBook 2.0 software will launch in February.
The new PlayBook software will be available in February which will enable native email, calendar and address book. This update will also add the ability to run any Android applications which developers have submitted to BlackBerry App World.

To start off i would like to say thanks to CSpire and RIM. Both of you have brought great changes to the BB. now for my questions. What is different with this new phone than the other ones? and being a business based phone from the beginning and staying with that picture unlike a lot of other phone makers, what can we expect to see from RIM in the future?
@josey carithers
Thank you for the kind words. As our CEO's have announced, next year we will be launching a new OS on our phones, sometime around holidays 2012, with continued business focus.
With respect to BB7 devices (Bold 9930), the new phones have more than double the processing power, and triple the memory which completely changes the user experience from a speed perspective.
The new BlackBerry 7 devices (Curve 9350, Bold 9930 and Torch 9850) all have a completely redesigned browser from the same company that helped to develop the best browsers in the world including Safari. What is the best model Blackberry to use for business?
@princess_e92
In my opinion, the Bold 9930 is the best phone for a business user. It has an amazing keyboard which RIM has spent over 1 million man-hours developing to be the fastest, most effecient keyboard on any mobile device.
The 9930 is definitely the device I use on a daily basis.
Aside from business use, it's also a great device to watch movies and play games on with both a touch screen and keypad navigation available.
Thanks ![]()
almost forgo! sorry guys for blowing up this thread. final question i promise unless something else comes up. I love the way BB gives us free messaging with the BBM app. Can we expect any additional features added on to this free feature? I would be more than happy to pay for a more advanced version of BBM. Add maybe a call feature with BB to BB maybe? larger file sharing? If not you guys are still doing a great job and keep it up please!
@josey carithers
Great question! The new BBM6 allows application developers to integrate their applications into BBM. This means that when you complete your morning run with Endomondo, or are following the Saints game in ScoreMobile they will integrate with BBM, letting your friends know what you're up to. They can also integrate the chat functionality into their apps, allowing for conversations within the game such as Texas Hold'em Poker!
As with BBM 5 you can create groups to contact mulitple people all at once, share calendar invites, send pictures of family, etc. It's a great way to keep in touch with groups of friends/family!
My question is. Is there an actual 4G BlackBerry?
If so, what's it's name?
@diane gosney
In GSM technically carriers are allowed to call the Bold 9900 a '4G' phone. However the data speeds on the 9930 are very close, but still utilize the existing CDMA EVDO network.
There are no current LTE BlackBerrys.
Does RIM plan to make touch/qwerty combo devices a part of the line up for traditional, non touch devices?
@kimberly cooley
Yes RIM will have a hybrid touch/QWERTY device in our line-up going forward. The Bold 9930 is the first of these devices but be assured that RIM will always have a QWERTY device and will also now offer premium touch/QWERTY hybrid devices.
Thanks!
Will the BB 10 devices coming in 2012 be more geared towards GSM or CDMA networks or balanced?
@kimberly cooley
The BlackBerry 10 devices coming in 2012 have not been announced, but with half of the carriers in the US being CDMA we will definitely continue to support this technology.
Currently, no 3rd parties offer extended batteries for the 9930. Does RIM plan to provide an OEM alternative via shopblackberry?
@kimberly cooley
I have yet to see any extended battery options for BlackBerry and I don't expect us to make one ourselves either with our premium battery life expectations as a manufacturer.
I have seen a wireless charging option called 'PowerMat' which would be a viable option, or one of the BlackBerry OEM desktop stands to ensure the device is always fully charged.
What will be the price of the 9930? I recently upgraded my phone to the Bold that is currently offered at CSpire, then it got damaged and I had to replace it at full retail price with the Curve as it was the only one available. The Bold was no longer there. I really wanted to hold out until the new BB7 phones came out, but I had no phone and no one would ever let me know when that would be. So, guess I want to know the price to see if I can afford to upgrade to the newest BB available at CSpire. I have the Playbook and have used BBs for many, many years and am a very loyal BB user. I did try Android, but just couldn't stay with Android...needed my BB and buttons!
@nicholas hawk
The Bold 9930 will be $299 after rebate with a 2-year contract.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully you can get one of the new Bolds!
Is the Bold 9930 available now? Cost? Is it a touch screen?
@carol applewhite
Hi Carol, the Bold 9930 is available tomorrow.
This Bold has a keyboard like a traditional BlackBerry, but the large screen on top is also a touch screen. This way you can navigate through menus/applications/browser like a touchscreen, but when you need to type something you have a physical keyboard to use!
The Bold will be $299 after rebate on a 2-year contract.
@Carol Applewhite
The new Blackberry Bold 9930 is now available.
Can you sync your google account on the Blackberry? Contacts and Calendars?
@gret
All BlackBerrys wirelessly synchronize the email and contacts from Gmail accounts. As you add contacts to the device they show up on the computer and vice versa. Gmail is one of the best accounts to use with BlackBerrys actually!
Wow, Thank You. That's good to know. ![]()
Thank You to Dan for taking the time and answering these questions. I have learned alot about Blackberry. The Blackberry seems like a really good phone. Again, Thank You.
when will cspire get the blackberry torch 9850
What material is the Bolds screen made of? Looking forward to it I have benn using a Tour 9630 for tha last 2 years without issue.
The 9930 is basically made up very similularly to the 9630 (which was an awesome device btw) except the 9930 has a new chrome band around the otter edges of the device.
What does my blackberries freeze up all the time?
When is blackberry going to get better apps?
I have a BB Pearl.The battery came out of my phone last night and now it will not come on. A red light comes on when I press the power button but nothing else. What do I need to do?
@ Betina Latiker
We need to work with you personally to resolve your issue. Please send your name mobile number and brief description of the issue to us at circle@cspire.com .
GOOD Riddance to BB!
Welcome, Dan!
I have had several blackberries, and I have a numerous problems with each one! I am very frustrated with Blackberry and am very much in need for an upgrade! I am considering it, but my budget may not allow it at this time, but I may have to do it anyway. I absolutely HATE my blackberry! It's terrible!!! I'm sorry to be so critical, but the truth is the truth!
We understand how important your phone is to you. We'll be more than happy to work with you personally and generate quote if you'd like to upgrade. All you have to do is email your information in to social@cspire.com and a member of our team will contact you with further details.
Will the blackberry's eventually be better than the androids?
@Dominac It would be your personal preference on which device is better. You can explore more about each device on our site or in our Local Store.
my question is why does my blackberry pearl flip all the sudden start shutting off for no reason? the phone is only 14 months old. and why isnt there a way for "scout" to find apps for blackberry users.... we would like to earn perc points that way to.
@Marcy Wofford Normally when the devices start to shut off the battery is loose or defective. You can purchase a battery online through your manage my account or by going into the local Cspire location. Also we do understand your frustration on Scout and once it is available for other devices we will make everyone aware through Circle, Facebook and Twitter.
I taped the back so it holds a little more sturdy so far it has not shut down on its own since. I am just trying to make this phone last until I can afford to upgrade.
Blackberrys crash and are to slow ![]()
What is so special about a blackberry?
It's just USER CHOICE. I left my Galaxy and returned to a Blackberry.
This seems to be a popular pattern. I can't count how many people I know either regret going Android 4 months down the road, or go Android and immediately return to BlackBerry. I really hope CSpire gets on board with the BlackBerry 10 devices to be released later this year. They will be game changing, and I hope like the Heavens that CSpire actually markets them and doesn't just shelf them.
is this a good phone
I've had my 9930 for a couple of months, so far I love it.
never was a big fan of blackberry although i loved it till i got my android, now i want the iphone 4s
I want the iphone 4s too!!
